For the record, my replacement pants in size EIGHT came in and... they fit! They fit comfortably!

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go do the Fancy Pants Dance for a while. I still can't believe it.

Busy (see other side) but here is some food for thought from Dana Carpender. I think she's onto something. I just wish I could figure out how physical activity figures into the numbers, though. I imagine I should go higher than the amount from the calculation on her page, but how much?

Oh my god. Oh my fucking god. I just got a pair of pants in the mail, which against my better judgment I ordered in size 12. I figured they'd be kind of tight but serve as motivation to lose these last few pounds. They are HUGE on me. Too big even to think about trying to shrink them to fit. I'm returning them for a size EIGHT. EIGHT. I can't fucking believe it. A year ago I was wearing 18s and 18Ws. Holy shit. It's real. I went into the closet just now and tried on my benchmark pants. The pants I could button and zip but which bulged at the hips are a little bit loose now. The pants I couldn't even button at first, the ones where the button was three inches from its hole, then later which I could button but not zip: I'm wearing them now and they're completely comfortable. A little loose but not too bad. These are pants I used to wear when I was bartending, age 20 to 25. Holy shit. I'm just flabbergasted. It works, it's true, it's real. Thank you, Dr. Atkins.

Here's a nice cream update, for thems who follow along. A few days ago, we made a batch of what we called New Jersey Super Fudge Chunk, a sugarfree version of the Ben & Jerry's classic. Instead of the white chocolate we used macadamia nuts, and the almonds were just almonds, not chocolate-covered like in the B&J's recipe. We also used full-strength chocolate ice cream, not the lighter chocolate they recommend. It was divine. Having carefully studied elephantine quantities of the stuff in the past, I can report we pretty much nailed it.

If you want to follow along at home, get the Ben & Jerry's book. For the ice cream, we combined "Ben's chocolate" with "Jerry's chocolate" to get the superstrong chocolate base. Naturally, the Master Blend substitutes for the sugar. Then just chop up a bunch of nuts and sugarfree candy bars. I'm going to get some of the La Nouba white chocolate bars for next time. La Nouba dark chocolate bars are by far the best sugarfree candy I've had, and I bet they'll do just fine with the white. They also make a sour cherry preserve which is just fucking celestial over cheesecake ice cream. I see on their site that they're going to make low carb Belgian waffles. I believe if anybody can pull that off, they can. I hope they're the kind with the embedded syrup like you get on the streets in Belgium, and not just deep waffles...though that would probably be okay too.

Yesterday we made blueberry ice cream. We cooked half the berries down a little with Splenda and lemon juice, then added them to the sweet cream base and let that age overnight. Churned that all up, then added the rest of the berries at the last minute. We also threw a few fresh berries on each dish at serving time. Pretty darn good, but the jury is still out on the frozen berries. They stayed intact throughout the process, so you keep biting into frozen blueberries. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed frozen blueberries in the past—most notably the night before our prom when pal L and I ate a whole bag and then realized that our mouths were dyed blue—but I'm not sure if I like the texture in the ice cream environment. I think what you'd normally do is macerate them with sugar, which changes their structure a bit so you don't get the ice crystals. Unfortunately, Splenda doesn't have the same effect. I'm going to try Erythritol or Maltitol next time, and mash them up a bit to break the skins and get the molecular party started. In any case, the ice cream was a lovely violaceous hue, and the fresh berries combined well with the ice cream. I'll do this one again.

Re: NFA August

It has come to our attention that you either did not receive or have chosen to disregard the previous memo which clearly declared this month "No Fucking Around August". In light of the impending belt testing and attendant need for strength, the following situations are unacceptable and must be rectified immediately:

1. Getting of period
2. Catching of cold/sore throat

We must remind you that these conditions violate the posted rules of NFA August and must not be allowed to continue.

We expect to see improvement in the near future.

Sincerely,

The Brain

I've declared this month to be No Fucking Around August. I've gotten sloppy lately, but this month I'm going to be extra serious about eating well and exercising, with the target for maximum possible buffness being the obvious date. I intend to walk 10K+ steps a day, plus as many classes as I can fit. I will also find out what the minimum equipment is that I have to buy to get into the kickboxing classes, buy what I have to, and start taking those. I'm also going try not to eat late in the evening, though I kind of fucked that one up already today. But the month is still young. Plenty of time to create a new habit.
