Wowza. I just walked to BJ's and back, carrying 28 pounds of groceries the whole way back. That's not all that much weight, in the grand scheme of things, but when it's all resting on one spot via a thin neck strap, it is. The way the bag sits on my hip I have to waddle like a pregnant person. I'm glad I'm not carrying that weight around all the time anymore.

The walk to BJs and back is almost exactly 10000 steps, the second half under an extra load, which works out well as a penance after yesterday when I barely broke 5000. I'm looking forward to the McDonald's pedometer giveaway next month... no matter what a cheap piece of shit it is they give out, it'll be about as good as the one I have now. And you bet I'll wear two at a time to see if they agree.

I've set a new goal. By my birthday, I want to be the weight that was on my driver's license back when I had one.
It wasn't true at 17, but I'm going to try to make it true at 37. Unfortunately, the last 10 or 20 pounds are famously more difficult to lose than the first ones, so it may be tougher than I think. I might not make it by my birthday; that would mean losing 19 more pounds between now and then, but I intend to do it in my 37th year. Well, we'll see. It works out to me losing almost exactly a pound a week to get there in time, and that doesn't sound impossible to me.

Oh, I'm totally getting an ice cream maker. Cuisinart makes one in red, and that is, as we know, a Sign that it needs to be in our kitchen. Perhaps I'll stop by Bloodbath & Beyond tomorrow and see how big the bowl really is that needs to live in the freezer. There should be room once I clear out the carbage that's in there now.

So I had my first significant sugar since last fall. I had one of these yesterday, having been told it was made with cream cheese, butter, and "a little bit of sugar." Unfortunately, if you check that link, that was "a little bit" in the way Emeril Lagasse uses the term. I got home today and did the math and it's not as bad as I thought it might be. Ain't no five dozen candies in that batch, though; the recipe linked above is for a batch half the size of the one I sampled from, and the double-sized batch only produced around 64 candies as far as I could tell. I feared it was 1/2 ounce of sugar per serving, and therefore crazy carbwise, but Diet Sleuth says they are around 7 grams apiece. It'll be a simple matter to make these things into legal snax, since there's no flour to worry about substituting. I'll use Splenda, now that I've found a reliable supply of the big bags in an A&P, and unsweetened coconut. No sweat. It'll be a delightful pile of little fat bombs for the days when my dietary fat percentage is too low. (And yes, there are those days! Best diet ever!)

Weight loss continues apace. At this rate I should be at or past my goal weight by my birthday. Been buying new pants (thrift shops roool, especially for what should be temporary clothing!) and belts, all three jean sizes smaller than before. My old ones are looking really big to me now. I think that means my body image is catching up with my body itself. I've graduated somehow: the new jeans have fewer belt loops than the old ones. That probably means something. The best thing of all is, I can wear 501s again. I've been wearing the bigass relaxed fit 550s for the last decade or two, and I'm just thrilled to be able to wear good ol' button-fly 501s again. I missed them. Now the next step is to get to the elusive perfect proportion where the waist and inseam numbers are the same. I started off with them 10 apart, now they're just 2 apart, so I'm one size away from being a perfect square, which I'm not sure I've ever been before. I wish I remembered what size I used to wear back in the day. Not that the number branded on the back of my ass matters in any real way at all, mind you. It's just something I'm thinking about today since I bought pants for the thing on Saturday.

Diet stuff (specifically low-carb, Atkins-type stuff) will be on this weblog from now on, so as not to clutter the regular blog with its boringness. As I learn about new low-carb stuff I'll post it to this blog, so check in from time to time if you care to. If you got here directly from a search result and want to read about anything other than low-carb living, here's how you get to the rest of my site!
